Capturing a miracle | Rio Grande Valley birth photographer

I’ve been a bad blogger lately! The holiday rush has had me swamped since November and I’m finally making time to sit down and blog. I first want to share an experience that ranks up there among the most amazing of my life…getting to photograph Baby A’s birth. The experience was so thrilling and honestly incredible. First of all, thank you to my sweet friend (a.k.a-the birthing goddess) who is allowing me to share these photos of her very intimate experience with you. Thank you also to the wonderful midwives at Holy Family Birth Center and Lorie Martinez-Dykes with Baby Matters Doula Service. I know the support of these women made the birthing experience wonderful for momma and baby!

I’ll start by saying that I nearly missed this birth. I left my home at about 3 a.m. and was pulled over by the police for speeding. I was going 40 in a 30 and was the only car on the road…except for the cop! He kept me there for nearly 15 minutes and I guess my guilt trip of telling him how I was on my way to photograph a birth and how I was going to miss it, finally got through to him. No, I didn’t get a ticket. Whew!

I arrived at the birth center and she was literally born about 8 minutes after I walked in the door at 3:36 a.m. It was a whirlwind experience. Just amazing. I think these images really convey the what the room felt like that early morning. It was dark. I mean, DARK. I didn’t know my camera could function in such darkness actually. But, there was something about the darkness that was calming and natural. Now when I say momma is a birthing goddess, I mean that. She had an all-natural labor and went from 7 centimeters to birth in about 30 minutes, and she made it look EASY!

Baby A was born and she was SO alert! I can still vividly remember her looking around so calmly and taking it all in.

If you are interested in having your birth experience captured, please e-mail me at info@melissarodriguezphotography or call me at 956/975-4264. I am looking to expand my birth photography portfolio and would love to talk to you!

I hope you enjoy this small peek into this incredible experience.

LOVE this one! I can tell she’s going to be quite the little model! 😉

Love it, Melissa – awesome job!!!! I wish my schedule allowed me to do birth photography!! With another job, I just can’t do it. If I ever did photography full time, I would definitely be up for it. I’ve photographed 4 births, 3 being my nephews and 1, a good friend – loved it!!! 🙂

Hope y’all had a Merry Christmas! How’s little Miss Priss doing??

Thanks Ashley! It is a bit difficult with a full-time job I will admit. Maddie is doing great! Getting to be such a big girl! Hope all is well with you. Happy New Year!
